Southern Rebels

The Reformation of the Rebels [-]
I remember after Charlie was asked to leave the Masquerader, all of his original members and one half of the Masqueraders members packed up, and headed for Metairie play ground to reform the Rebels. The two groups needed a new name so Southern from Southernairs and Rebels from the Crescent City Rebels was adopted hence Southern Rebels was formed. We used all of the C.C, Rebels horns, drums and uniforms including sun glasses (our trade mark) worn day or night.

We pre-paired for the drum corps contest in City Park Stadium and were beaten by the Masqueraders and haven’t lived it down yet (my wife is a Masquerader). I marched from 1965 to 1967 when I aged out and joined the Air Force. Even after aging out and until today I still keep track of drum corps. It was the best of times.
